Open meeting, June 11, 2016

Members of the Friends of the Library are invited to attend the annual members’ meeting on June 11, 2015 at 9:00AM at the Brunswick Library.

In addition to an opportunity to meet the Board of the Friends and learn about what we’ve done over the last year, this is also where we vote for some of our board members (to two-year terms).

If you are a member (or would like to become a member) and attend the meeting, please let us know so that we can have enough refreshments. Email: folbrunswick@gmail.com Phone: (240) 285-9583.

Railroad Days Volunteers Needed: Oct 3 & 4

The Railroad Days book sale is the Friends’ biggest fundraising event of the year, and we need your help with set-up and sales. There are 3 ways for you to sign up:

Bring a friend! The more the merrier, many hands make light work, and other aphorisms.
As in past years, the book sale will be in the parking lot of the American Legion Post building right next to the railroad tracks in downtown Brunswick, Maryland.

In addition… we are still in need donations of books to sell.  If you have books you can donate, please drop them off at the Brunswick Library.  Any questions please email us at FOLBrunswick@gmail.com or call at 240-285-9583.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

2014 was a successful year for the Friends of the Brunswick Library. Between the reading programs, the visits from characters from kids’ books, and the recent installation of The Boat in the children’s section of the Library, this has been a busy and rewarding year.

And we couldn’t have done it without our donors and especially our members. Thank YOU for your continued support.

It’s a new year, which means it’s time to renew your membership. Please visit our Membership page where you can find our membership form that you can download as well as our different membership levels. Thank you for your support in 2015.

Author James Castle to speak at the Library, November 15

Local author James R. Castle will be discussing chapter one of his new book  History In Our Attics: Photos and Documents of Brunswick, Maryland.

Books will be available for sale and for every book purchased at the event, James will donate $5.00 to the Friends of the Brunswick Library Float the Boat campaign. Already have a book? No Problem. Bring your copy of the book to follow along with the discussion and James will still make a donation to the Friends of the Brunswick Library.

Saturday, November 15, 2014 – 1:00pm – 3:00pm.

Light refreshments will be served and James will donate a copy of his book to the Brunswick Branch as well as to the Maryland Room.

For more information, contact Jim at Jamesrcastle@comcast.net.

Railroad Days 2014 – Thank you!

It’s been a long couple of days, but it’s finally over. All indications are that we had another successful book sale.

Many thanks to those who came out to see us today and, hopefully, buy a book or three. All of the money earned will go directly to supporting our local library.

Special thanks go to all of our volunteers who withstood bright sun, biting wind, and carried lots and lots (and lots!) of books. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Volunteers needed for Railroad Days, October 4 & 5

Our best fundraising event of the year is approaching!

Our annual book sale during Railroad Days is Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5.

We need volunteers to help sell books. We have sign up times for working available on both days from 10 to 12, 12 to 2:30, and 2:30 to 5.  We can also use help setting up on Saturday and breaking down the site on Sunday. Please sign up and help us make this a profitable event for the library!

Can you help by taking one (or more!) shift? If so, please contact us at this e-mail address (folbrunswick@gmail.com) or call at (240)285-9583.

Voting has begun!

The Friends of the Brunswick Library is pleased to announce the pending arrival of a custom-designed canal boat for the children’s area. As all boats need a good name we’re asking Brunswick Library’s youngest patrons (and those young-at-heart) to vote for their favorite name.

The candidates are:

  • Blue Bell
  • Onward
  • Morning Star
  • Busy Bee

These names were selected from a number of canal boats that actually sailed on the C&O canal. Vote for the boat name at the Brunswick Library information desk. For more details about this project see the article printed in the September 4 edition of The Brunswick Citizen.

The Friends of the Brunswick Library is now a tax-exempt organization

Up until October, 2011, the Friends of the Library – Brunswick Branch was part of the Friends of the Frederick County Libraries umbrella organization and were covered by their 501(c)3 designation. When that organization folded, we decided to re-organize as the Friends of the Brunswick Library, Inc. and apply for tax-exempt status.

Well, we have finally received notification from the IRS that our application as a 501(c)3 organization has been approved!

If you have donated to the Friends of the Brunswick Library and have not declared the donation on your taxes, you may be able to declare it on this year’s tax return. Consult your tax professional.

Annual Meeting 2014

At our annual membership meeting, we added two new members to our Board. Please welcome Carrie Blough and Toni Chancellor! Four other members of our board were also re-elected for two year terms: Al Everett, Carol Fessmann, Jill Lieberman, and Elizabeth Riitano.

We also had some changes among our officers. Elizabeth Riitano stepped down as our President. Al Everett was chosen to succeed her. Since that then left a vacancy at Treasurer, Carol Fessmann stepped up to take over.

Congratulations to our new Board Members and Officers.
