Remembering Jane Weisemann

We are saddened to hear of the recent passing of Jane Weisemann.

Jane was one of our longest serving members of the Friends of the Library, and her membership reply was one of the first we received each year. Jane was also one of our most reliable volunteers and we could always count on her to help out at our annual used book sale.

Our thoughts are with Jane’s loved ones. She will be missed.

Not Quite Burns Night is here again!

This Wednesday sees the return of our Not Quite Burns Night. What started as a lark has turned into the Friends of the Brunswick Library’s best fundraiser.

For those of you who have missed the first two, here’s what’s in store:

  • A new Scotch Ale from Smoketown Brewing Station
  • Readings of Robert Burns’ poetry
  • Bagpipes
  • Men in Kilts
  • Trivia! (about Burns and Scotland, of course)
  • And, honestly, members of the community hanging out and having a good time

There is, of course, the online silent auction. Items have already been posted, so start bidding!

All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Brunswick Library, Inc., whose sole mission is to support the programming and mission of the Brunswick Branch of the library.

We hope to see you there!

Additionally, we’re planning some Burns’ trivia, reading of Burns poetry, and a bagpiper. There’s sure to be a few kilts as well.

Space at the brewery is limited, so come early!

Volunteers needed Oct. 1 & 2!

As you may or may not know, the annual used book sale at Brunswick Railroad Days is our biggest event of the year, not to mention our primary fundraiser. Believe it or not, October 1 is only a month-and-a-half away. We need your help to make it successful.

We would appreciate a donation of a couple of hours of your time on October 1 and/or October 2 during Railroad Days. We need help with book sales, organizing the books, and especially with setup (on Saturday) and breakdown (on Sunday).

Not sure if volunteering is for you? Bring a friend! “Many hands make light work” as the saying goes.

Got teenagers? Got teenagers who need volunteer hours? This is a perfect opportunity, and we always need young, strong backs during setup and breakdown.

Have a truck that we can use to transport the books the two blocks from our storage to our location for the sale? Please let us know!

There are three ways you can sign up:

1. Go to SignUpGenius: Friends of the Library Book Sale @ Railroad Days
(This is the best way)

2. Email us (folbrunswick@gmail.com) with your preferred shifts (see below)

3. Call us (240-285-9583) with your preferred shifts (see below)

Teen Book Exchange, May 21, Brunswick, Maryland American Legion

While the Friends are all about the Library, we also want to do our part to promote reading, especially among young people. The event detailed below is not a Friends of the Library or a Library event, but may be something that interests our fellow book lovers.

Are you a teenager who loves to read? Do you know such a teenager?12933169_258377741170614_5561258755923895716_n

Do you have books that you’ve read that you would like to trade for new (to you) books?

Would you like a chance to win a gift card to McDonalds, Starbucks, or Chipotle?

Then come to the Teen Book Exchange, on May 21, 2016, from 10AM to Noon, at the American Legion in Brunswick, Maryland. Those who RSVP on SignUp genius and attend the event will be put in a drawing for those gift cards. Bring 5 books, and you’ll get vouchers to get 6!

The event is free and leftover books will be donated to the Frederick Community Action Agency to be distributed to homeless teens in Frederick County.
